Diving into Albania: From culinary traditions to adventure

A travel-loving family from Romania recently visited us at Hotel Castle Park in Berat, and also joined us in the Osumi Canyons for a unique rafting adventure!

Together, the family uncovered the local culinary traditions of Albania with our traditional cooking class, explored breathtaking canyons and made unforgettable memories with their little ones – Mihai, aged 7, and Alex, aged 10.

The famous UK news website The Telegraph has recently featured Albania as the Mediterranean’s budget secret in an article late last month.

The Albanian Rafting Federation is pleased to announce the opening of applications for training and certification in the specialized field of Rafting for the year 2024.

Training is scheduled for Wednesday, April 3, 2024. Applications will be accepted until one day prior to the commencement of the training session.

Albania Rafting Group strongly supports the initiative of National and International Civil Society Organizations for the preservation and not the destruction of a bird ecosystem as large as the Vjose-Narte Lagoon. We emphasize the potential that this lagoon has for us, as it is one of our most popular destinations by local and foreign tourists for adventure. People from all over the world come to this lagoon to enjoy the diversity of its ecosystem and also to see some of the endangered bird species.

World-famous actor DiCaprio has been one of the main activists against the construction of a hydropower plant on  Vjosa River.
He expressed his concern on instagram last year, emphasizing that the construction of the hydropower plant in Kalivaç has a negative impact on the river ecosystem.

Big step towards a win for Albanian Vjosa river

One of Europe’s last big wild rivers is looking like it will be saved from hydropower development. On 25 September 2020 Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama announced that the Kalivaç dam project was rejected by the Minister for Environment and that the area will become a national park instead.

The best known destinations for fluvial tourism and the starting point for the debate about river security in Albania are the scenic Osumi and Vjoses coasts.

On 28th December 2018 the Albanian Rafting Federation gave the first input to create a National programme for the official qualification of river guides on the whole Albanian territory, rich in natural beauty from the mountains to the Ionian and Adriatic Seas.
